World Cashmere

Producers... Researchers... Processors... Buyers... Sellers... Consumers

This web site provides an opportunity for people from around the world to learn more about cashmere production, research, testing, manufacture and marketing. The goal is to develop links between those involved in cashmere, including commercial as well as research contacts. Cashmere-producing goats are found in many countries.
As a result of the first Asian Cashmere Conference held in January 2007, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, it became clear that producers, traders, international processors, researchers and development agencies need a central point of information about their product. At that conference, at which 16 countries were represented, the decision was made to establish this web site. The site will be developed, adding research articles, market information, business contacts and other material of interest.
While the majority of cashmere is harvested in China and Mongolia, other Asian countries of Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries of the former Soviet Republics of Central Asia,as well as India and Pakistan, contain many millions of cashmere goats.
The website is deisnged and maintained by
Odessa Centre Ltd. UK. The centre has been active in cashmere development in Central Asia since 2000.
